Alcock Tarn

Map

Now this really is a gorgeous spot and with an easy to follow path running past the tarn it offers an delightful walk for those lacking in time or the desire to be more adventurous. On the other hand, by taking an off path route on the fellside between the tarn and the main ridge near Heron Pike there are a whole host of possibilities for the more experienced walker to include this tarn in a walk (it is steep, but perfectly manageable).
Originally much smaller and named Buttercrags Tarn, it was enlarged when a Mr Alcock in the nineteenth century when he built the dam at the southern end of the tarn.
