I've known Binsa for as long I can ever remember. My family are from Ireby and when I was really young, I seem to recall walking up there at least once with my Grandparents. No doubt I moaned the whole way up and asked on more than one occasion if we were "nearly there". These days I find a walk up here to be a complete pleasure and not at all the chore it must have seemed back then.

You don't need to know much about the fells to realise Binsa is not going to give you a long, tiring or adventurous day on the fells. However, if it's a short walk you're in search of then this is a great place to come. From the southern half of the fell you get fantastic views back into the Lake District proper and then, when you reach the top, the Cumbrian coast, the Solway Firth and the Scottish hills are seen. It all depends on how you approach fell walking and what for you makes a good walk, but those like myself who don't always have to walk 13 mile and 4000ft of ascent to enjoy themselves will come away from here feeling satisfied with the hour or two they've just spent on Binsa.

Route suggestions
Route suggestion: Binsey Cottage to the top
0.7 mile / approx 550 ft ascent
++++++++++++++++++++
This is as straightforward as you could ever hope a route to be. A simple case of walking through a gate onto the fell and following the only available path to the top.
Although it's all up hill, the gradient is gentle and makes for a lovely walk. On a clear day the views back towards the northern fells are fantastic.
