A lot of people simply hold no regard for the lower and mid range fells. They seem to have the idea that if a fell is less than a certain height or if you don't need to clamber over rocks and crags then it isn't worth bothering with. Well, I think it would be a crying shame if Glenridding Dodd were any higher or rockier than it is. For one thing, if it were higher the fantastic view down to Glenridding would be ruined; higher is not always better as far as views go.
You could argue that the fell is really the easternmost and lower end of Sheffield Pike, and while this may be true to a certain degree, thankfully Glenridding Dodd is still separate enough from Sheffield Pike to give it a feel of individuality.
