Greendale is quite easy for me to reach, and as a consequence Middle Fell is somewhere I regularly visit when I'm in search of a somewhat shorter walk. More often than not I'm here on a summer evening or on a half day outing when, if time allows, Seatallan and Buckbarrow could be tagged onto the walk.
When I walk on my own, I tend not to hang around in one place for too long, and even if I do decide to stop for a while, it's rarely at the summit of a fell. On Middle Fell however, the rocky area around the cairn is somewhere I find it hard to dismiss and quickly walk away from.
If this fell is the only one to be included on the walk, an obvious inclusion on the route would be Greendale Tarn; a lovely quite place, but extremely wet and boggy on its western side.
