Nab Scar

Details
Grid Ref NY 356 073
Height 1,450 ft

There isn't a huge amount to say about Nab Scar. Some would even argue that it isn't really a fell in its own right, but merely the bottom end of the Fairfield ridge. And while you're actually on the fell it doesn't feel like a separate entity at all. From the opposite side of the valley however, it looks altogether different and well worth the climb.

I dare say Nab Scar is usually climbed as the start of a Fairfield Horseshoe walk rather than a walk onto Nab Scar for its own sake. I can understand that if I'm honest because Nab Scar doesn't really cry out to be walked as a single fell.

Route suggestions

Route suggestion: Rydal - Rydal Mount - Nab Scar
1.1 mile / approx 1200 ft ascent
++++++++++++++++++++
I know this is a little bit steep for a while, but it's still the quickest and easiest route onto Nab Scar.

The parking spaces alongside Rydal Church fill up very quickly, although there are other places to park nearby.

Route suggestion: A591 - Alcock Tarn - Nab Scar
1.7 mile / approx 1200 ft ascent
++++++++++++++++++++
This is a lovely route onto Nab Scar with the highlight of the route being a visit to Alcock Tarn. Once past the tarn you need to find the narrow path which will lead to Nab Scar. If you're used to off path walking you can just head straight across, but this is made difficult in summer because of the bracken.
