Rannerdale Knotts is short, low ridge just outside the lovely village of Buttermere. The eastern end of the ridge is gently sloping, grassy and blends in nicely with the lower section of Whiteless Pike. In stark contrast to this, the western end next to Crummock Water drops abruptly down to Rannerdale in a confusion of rocks and crags.
The fell itself offers a reasonable amount of shorter walks for people to choose from, not least of which includes a route through the little valley of Rannerdale. Should you choose to come this way during late spring, you'll witness a display of bluebells which is simply stunning.
This is another fell I keep up my sleeve for those days when conditions aren't great or when time is scarce.
