Starting Point Information Centre
Car park, Overbeck Bridge, Wasdale

Although this is a reasonably sized car park, this is a very popular area and during the summer months it fills up pretty quickly. Yewbarrow rises high above this car park so for those with a liking for steep, challenging fells this is the ideal spot.

Parking is free.

Route Map

Yewbarrow, Great Gable and Lingmell from the drive towards Wasdale Head.

Looking up the bottom section of the route up Yewbarrow.

The Scafells from just below Bell Rib.
I couldn't have asked for a better day for walking on the fells.

Red Pike in the distance, again from just below Bell Rib.

Looking back down the route between Bell Rib and Dropping Crag.

Burnmoor Tarn can be seen lying in the boggy area between Illgill Head and Scafell.

Wastwater from Great Door.

The scafells from the start of Yewbarrow's broad grassy ridge.

Kirkfell and Great Gable.

Red Pike and Pillar from Yewbarrow.

Yewbarrow's ridge with black Sail Pass behind, kirk Fell on the right and the Pillar ridge on the left.

Kirk Fell, Great Gable and Sty Head pass.

Looking across to Sty Head Pass with Great Gable on the left.

Dore Head and Red Pike from the route off Yewbarrow.

Looking back up my route from just above Dore Head.
The path down the rocky section is very steep. Hands as well as feet are needed on this route because of the distance between the rocks, quite a lot of long leg stretches are needed.

Dore Head from the path near Gosforth Crag Moss.

Red Pike from the path near Dropping Crag.

Looking back up the route I took at the start of the walk.
Dropping Crag on the left and Bell Rib on the right.
