Starting Point Information Centre
Car park, behind the Blencathra Centre, Threlkeld

At almost 1000ft above sea level this is a popular starting point for those wishing for an easier ascent of Blencathra.
Parking is free, but it is quite a popular spot. If you find this car park full you'll need to back track to the car park a little further down the road or even in the village itself.

Route Map

Blencathra under cloud from Knowe Crags.

Lonscale Fell, Skiddaw Little Man and Skiddaw, almost from the same place as the previous picture.
The views were great this morning, even though they didn't last very long. It was one band of cloud after another coming up from the crags on the Threlkeld side of the ridge.

Knowe Crags.

The Skiddaw fells again from further along the ridge.

Blencathra Summit. No view from the summit while I was there !!

Scales Tarn from Tarn Crags.

Mungrisdale Common summit cairn with the Skiddaw fells behind.

From the route off Mungrisdale Common looking across towards Skiddaw House (in the trees).

Great Calva with cloud on its summit from The Stake.

Great Calva with the Carrock Fell fells behind Taken from the path up Burnt Horse.

Looking down to the path that runs between Longscale Crags and Skiddaw House from the route up Burnt Horse.

Lonscale Fell summit.
The dark fells behind are (left) Skiddaw Little Man and (right) Skiddaw.

Blencathra from Lonscale Fell .

Carl Side and the Longside Ullock Pike ridge from Skiddaw Little Man.
The whole route from Longside to this point had been in thick cloud. Within a couple of minutes of this picture being taken all the Skiddaw and Blencathra fells were free from cloud.

Clough Head and the Dodds, with Great Rigg (front right) taken from the route down from Jenkin Hill.

A lovely autumn afternoon for the rest of the walk.
Looking back up the path to Skiddaw. The grassy path running just to the right of the fence was replaced a couple of years ago with the new broader path that zig zags its way up the fell.

The Skiddaw fells from near the Latrigg car park.

Blease Fell, Knowe Crags and Blencathra behind from Latrigg.

Clough Head and Great Dodd also from Latrigg.

Autumn colours near Derwentfolds with Blease Fell behind.

Clough Head from near Derwentfolds.
