Roadside parking, near Wythop Church

This litterally is parking alongside the road, with more of the car being on than off the road. There are some wider spaces in front of the church, but for instant access to the fellside below Sale Fell this is the beat spot.

Obviously parking is free along here.

Route Map

Bassenthwaite and Binsey from the start of the path around Sale Fell.

Ling Fell and Eskin (the white building).
These two fells are a great option for a shorter walk. The short section of road between the fells is quite difficult to avoid or change on each visit, but there are lots of different routes to choose from for the ascent and descent of the fells.

Looking back to Sale Fell from the Corpse Road.

Ling Fell summit with rain out towards the west coast and heading in my direction.

Three camera shy sheep on route to Sale Fell.

Ling Fell seen behind the route I took up to Sale Fell.

Sale Fell summit with the Skiddaw fells under cloud.

Just below Sale Fell summit, again with the Skiddaw fells behind.
When I reached the gate I turned left and followed the wall down to the point where I could join the main path that runs around Sale Fell. There is a slightly longer option from here, which is to go through the gate and follow the path straight ahead to the skyline then turn left and follow a path which takes you to the edge of some woodland and the down to the gate in the next picture.

The bottom of the wall seen in the previous picture.
