Car park, Broadgate, Grasmere

Broadgate is one of the three main car parks found in Grasmere. They all charge what may be considered over the odds, but I suppose parking in an area with so many walking options does come with a high price tag.

In addition to the walking on offer, the car park is within a minutes walk from the centre of Grasmere and everything it has to tempt the visitor.

Route Map

Another treat today with snow from ground level, some sunshine and almost no wind.

Taken on the outskirts of Grasmere just before we reached open fellside. The fell in the background is Stone Arthur.

Helm Crag, Seat Sandal and Fairfield.

Looking back down to Grasmere with Heron Pike behind.
I picked today's walk intentionally to get up into the snow again, but with the hope of avoiding the ice found on the higher fells. I wasn't disappointed at all. As we were gaining height the snow was gradually getting deeper and it was getting quiet warm; perfect conditions for walking on the fells.

Jennifer and Jane near Silver How summit and as I said the snow was getting deeper.

Just below the summit having fun in the snow.

Grasmere and Rydal Water taken from Silver How summit.

Loughrigg Fell and Windermere also taken from Silver How (just past the summit).
The snow covered ridge running across the picture from the right is the Spedding Crag / Dow Bank ridge we followed after leaving Silver How. This is a nice easy lower level ridge walk with some fantastic views down to Elterwater, Chapel Stile and Great Langdale.

Grasmere with Heron Pike and Nab Scar behind.

An un-named tarn along the Dow Bank ridge. Windermere is in the distance.

Walking down the track to The Wyke and the Grasmere road.

Grasmere and Seat Sandal. The lowest point on the skyline is Grisedale Hause.

Grasmere church from the outside of Grasmere garden centre.
