Roadside parking, near Wythop Church

This litterally is parking alongside the road, with more of the car being on than off the road. There are some wider spaces in front of the church, but for instant access to the fellside below Sale Fell this is the beat spot.

Obviously parking is free along here.

Route Map

Today was forecasted to be the last day of the current dry and sunny spell of weather. So, not wanting to miss out altogether, I had the spur of the moment idea to get out for an evening wander on Sale Fell. Always a satisfying choice for us.

Looking back down towards Embleton.

A close up of Dubwath.

The route we took on this occasion followed a clockwise direction. Not due to any planning or preference, it was just the way it turned out. This is one of those places where setting out with a route in mind would just spoil the walk. It's definitely best to simply wander about and see where your feet take you.

On the opposite side of the valley is Barf, Lord's Seat and Broom Fell.

Sale Fell summit.

Leaving Sale Fell summit and the earlier view of these fells opens up a bit more.

and another.

Walking through Chapel Wood.

To make a short walk slightly longer, we followed the road around 'the front' of Sale Fell. On route, we passed through Wythop Mill.

A short walk along the road would take us back to the car.
