Starting Point Information Centre
Car park, Aira Force, Park Brow

Aira Force remains one of the Lake Districts crowd pullers and although the main car park and the tea shop for the waterfalls is found lower down, close to Ullswater itself. This car park is actually the closest to the falls.

Parking is free, but spaces are limited.

Route Map

Heading down to Aira Force from the small ( free ) car park on Park Brow. We tried the main car park first and I nearly fainted when they wanted me to hand over £4 for 2 hours. No way, so we got back in the car and drove up to Park Brow.

Not exactly the best conditions for being outdoors. You didn't need to be very observant to work out that it was going to empty down and even at this modest height it was blowing a gale.

Wet and slippery steps leading down to Aira Force.

Looking back up the steps. I wonder how many people slip on these every year.

Don't do it !

, , , she didn't.

This is the higher of the the two bridges at the waterfalls.

Aira Beck.

A short walk up from Aira Force and you can cross onto the opposite side of the beck; as we did today.

Gloomy skies and rain was definitely in the air, but due to good luck rather than good judgement we managed to finish the walk almost as dry as we started it.

The money tree.

And that was a short walk around Aira Force. Just right when conditions aren't great.
