Car park, Rosthwaite, Borrowdale

There are actually two car parks right next to each other in Rosthwaite. One is the official car park and this is reflected in the pay and display price. The other one is simply a number of parking spaces adjoining Rosthwaite Village Hall which has a honesty box on the wall of the building.
I know which one I'd rather give my money to.

Route Map

Only a short walk up Castle Crag this morning. That's Castle Crag over there; the pointy bit covered in trees.

Yew Tree Farm in Rosthwaite.

Heading down the lane towards the River Derwent.

The water on the stepping stones may not look very deep and although I had no intentions of giving it a go, I carefully placed a foot on the stone just to sample the force of the water. It was almost to the top of my boot and the weight of the water was enough to make me quickly step back onto the river bank.

This has to be one of the tidiest walls / paths you're likely to see. It's hard to believe that 4 years ago tomorrow the previous wall and path were all washed away in the worst floods in centuries.

New Bridge.

A view down to Rosthwaite and Stonethwaite.

A close up of the clouds on Coombe Head and Glaramara.

Just below the summit you walk past the quarry.

Looking down to Derwent Water from Castle Crag summit.

A close up of Grange.

and just as the rain was getting heavy enough to put on a jacket, I took this close up of Walla Crag.

Castle Crag summit, complete with the poppies and crosses placed here at last Sunday's remembrance service.

Mossy trees, corner full of leaves and a very slippery stile.

Looking through the gap between Castle Crag and the side of Low Scawdel for a glimpse of Derwent Water. Had it been a blue sky and sunshine day you can see the Skiddaw fells from here, , , , not today though.

Tongue Gill.

Looking back across to Castle Crag.

It had been raining for a while but now it decided to get even heavier.

A rainy view across to Castle Crag.

Back in Rosthwaite.
