Roadside parking, near Wythop Church

This literally is parking alongside the road, with more of the car being on than off the road. There are some wider spaces in front of the church, but for instant access to the fellside below Sale Fell this is the beat spot.

Obviously parking is free along here.

Route Map

I managed end up with a couple of hours free time this afternoon so with nothing else needing done, and no where else I needed to be, I headed out for a walk on Sale Fell.

Turning around for a view down to Embleton.

Part of Bassenthwaite Lake and Binsey taken near the top of Sale Fell.

Sale Fell summit in front of the Skiddaw fells.

Looking back across to Sale Fell summit from the large cairn on Rivings.

With no plan in mind I decide to head down for a walk through Chapel Wood. Lovely view across to the Skiddaw fells from here.

It was lovely walking through Chapel Wood this afternoon. Strangely deserted considering the number of people up on Sale Fell itself, not a sound and warm in the afternoon sunshine.

The next picture says it all.

Looking across the terrace like path to Kelswick Farm.

and now looking back along the path. Up on the skyline is Lord's Seat.

From Kelswick I take the gentle path up the side of the fell below Dodd Crag. This would take me up to the western side of Sale Fell where I'll be able to drop back down to the car.

I wasn't out for long but as always, Sale Fell is a great little fell to get out for a short walk.
