The best option are the half dozen or so spaces outside the school. Other than that, it's a case of finding a space in the centre of the village.

With a forecast for even more rain to turn up by midday we left the house in the dark and reached Braithwaite just after daylight announced that Christmas Day had arrived. As we made our way through the village it was strangely quiet, very mild and thankfully it was dry for the time being.

8:26 and 10 seconds

Looking across to the northern fells.

Here I'm standing on Little Braithwaite Bridge and look through Newlands Valley.

Today's walk may not have been very far but it was a big milestone for Jennifer. Just over a month ago she had a knee operation so, apart from visiting the doctors, the supermarket or walking around town, this was the first time she'd been on a proper walk since then. The doctor had already said that she needs to do plenty of walking to build the muscle up again. Although I suspect what he calls plenty of walking and what Jennifer calls plenty of walking are two very different things. Hopefully this is the start of getting out for regular walks again and it won't be long until she's regularly back on top of the fells.

Nice hat by the way !!

Little Braithwaite Bridge.

We head along the path next to Newlands Beck. As I said at the time "for God sake what where you're putting your feet. You can't afford to twist your knee at all".

Sticking to the road for an easier walk, we walk through Stair and then make our way back along the main Newlands Valley road to Braithwaite. Here we're looking over Stair to Swinside and the northern fells.

It was so mild this morning and not a breath of wind to blow the snowman off Jennifer's head. You'd hardly think there was another storm brewing.

By this time the cloud wasn't half dropping on some of the higher fells. Over there we see Clough Head and the Dodds disappearing from view.

We're almost back in Braithwaite now and it's still only mid morning. That gives us plenty of time during the rest of the day for doing indoor Christmas stuff. A couple of minutes into the car journey hone it started to rain so for us at least, it was perfect timing.
