Parking spaces, Whitbeck Church

Found in the far south west of the Lake District, the parking spaces next to Whitbeck church are a handy starting point for a walk onto Black Combe. In the unlikely event of their being no room, there if a large lay-by a little further down the road (south).

Parking is free.

Route Map

An afternoon walk over Black Combe today in lovely summer sunshine albeit with a very strong wind on the summit itself. Here's a picture of the church at Whitbeck along with the path I'll be walking up shortly.

Looking back down to the Cumbrian coast.

Very hazy but down there is Walny Island and Barrow-in-Furness.

It's a long uphill walk on here but it's very steady and totally enjoyable, particularly higher up where I was accompanied by the strong scent of the heather.

Purple heather and blue sky.

Black Combe summit shelter and trig column.

Hazy views.

Plenty of space around here if you like this sort of thing.

Bootle and the Cumbrian coast.

Looking ahead to Whitbeck. It was very warm and very sunny along here - brilliant.

And to finish - I pass by Whitbeck Mill and moments later re-enter civilisation.
